FAQs
It is advised for conditions such as a tight foreskin (phimosis), recurrent infections or tears, difficulty with hygiene, or painful foreskin retraction. It may also be done for cultural or personal reasons.
Circumcision is a routine day-care surgery performed under local or general anaesthesia. The procedure usually takes 20–40 minutes, and most patients go home the same day or after 24 hours of observation.
Anaesthesia keeps you comfortable during surgery. Mild soreness or swelling is common for a few days. Desk work can usually be resumed in 2–3 days. Complete healing typically takes 2–3 weeks, and strenuous activity or cycling should be avoided until cleared.
Sexual activity can usually be resumed once the wound has healed and you are comfortable, typically 4–6 weeks after surgery. Your surgeon will confirm this during follow-up.
Dissolvable stitches or skin glue are commonly used. Keep the area clean and dry, wear supportive underwear, follow showering instructions, and avoid soaking the area until healing is complete.
Most people experience normal sensitivity and urinary function after healing, and fertility is not affected. Any temporary numbness or tenderness usually resolves on its own.
Topical steroid creams or foreskin stretching may help in mild cases of phimosis, but recurrence is common. Procedures like preputioplasty may be suitable for selected patients; circumcision remains the definitive solution.
When medically indicated, such as for phimosis or recurrent infections, many insurance plans provide coverage. Assistance with cashless approval and documentation is often available.
